August 28, 1898, U.S. Secretary of State John Milton Hay proposed the Open Door Policy. This policy's original purpose was to protect U.S. commercial interests in East Asia, but also preserved China from carving up by the Powers. About the Open Door Policy you may refer to our research findings: Wang Kang-ling, "The US Open Policy in the 1911 Republican Revolution", in Collected Articles from the Conference on the 1911 Republican Revolution.
