December 23, 1870, the court ordered the Commissioner of Imperial Textiles of Nanjing, Suzhou, and Hangzhou to provide the necessary silk works for the coming marriage ceremony of the Tongzhi Emperor. The Comissionerr of Imperial Textiles provide the palace's clothing and fabric goods, sometimes they would produce based on the emperor's taste. Through this route the imperial house could influence the fashion and material culture in the lower Yangzi era.
