April 30, 1872, Shenbao was first issued. Despite China has its traditional way of circulating information via "newspapers" since long ago, the newly introduced media from the West in the Late Qing still broke through regarding broadcasting new ideas among the Chinese people. Shenbao, which was issued in Shanghai, was its representative.
