The privately-Founded University of Hainan was a center for the Hainan and Overseas Chinese elite. Founded after the War of Resistance was won, its aim was to create a modernized Hainan. The university opened in November 1947, and closed in January 1951, “as ephemeral as the clouds.” Unfortunately, it was born into a turbulent period, and its closure by the Chinese Communist Hainan government is highly regrettable.
