    Abstract:
    Cai Yuanpei was famous in late Qing cultural circles, and he then dedicated himself to revolution. When the Republic of China was founded, he oversaw national educational administration for two terms, establishing a new system of education; before and after the May Fourth Movement, he also established afree research educational style at Beijing University; in his later years he went on to create Academia Sinica, laying foundations for scientific research. This book is an account of his life until 1916.
