Abstract:
Born and brought up in a poor family on farm in Taiwan, yet the child went through high school and college, and then he went to the US for his MA and PhD. He has taught in two high schools and several universities in Taiwan, and worked at the Academia Sinica for a quarter of a century before retirement. The main contents include his family background, his childhood, school years in Taiwan and the US, teaching and research positions, lifetime engagement with studies of Formosan languages, attending international conferences and workshops, academic achievements and honors, personal crises, the teachers and colleagues who had great influence on his career, family life, and finally the pleasures of retrospection.
