Abstract:
This book uses Hong Kong’s Christian cemeteries as a lens to examine the multifaceted interactions between the history of Christianity in Hong Kong and the development of Hong Kong’s Chinese society. The study addresses several key topics: the origins and historical evolution of Christian cemeteries, changes in the nature of Western Christian cemeteries, the establishment of Chinese Christian cemeteries, and the religious and cultural issues reflected in funeral customs. By exploring these areas from multiple angles, this book underscores the importance of cemetery research for reconstructing local history within a broader socio-cultural context.
