    Abstract:
This book comprises six papers from the Fourth International Conference on Sinology authored by Cynthia Brokaw, Joseph P. McDermott, Rur-bin Yang, Guo-Xiang Peng, Khee Heong Koh, and Miaw-fen Lu. Four papers relate to Confucianism, including the Confucian view on person, on body, on life and death, on human relations, and on etiquette, as well as the relationship between practice, self-cultivation, and physical health in a Confucian’s daily life. Four papers are all concerned with interactions between Confucianism and other religions. The other two papers belong to the history of books, relate to transitions of book publishing and circulation networks in Modern China, and book collections in Suzhou during the Qing dynasty. Although the six papers seem to have nothing in common, through the view of family, religion, and material life, we can see some interesting connection between them, which have enriched the study of history of the cultural history of the Ming and Qing dynasty.
