The Academia Sinica established the Preparatory Office for Institute of Modern History in February 1955 and then turned it into an official Institute ten years later. During the initial stage, the Institute of Modern History encountered a lot of difficulty but still succeeded in recruiting and training researchers, editing and publishing historical materials, purchasing library equipment, and promoting academic research and international cooperation, laying a foundation for growth in the later stages. The documentary film "Writing History in a Changing World" is produced to celebrate the anniversary of the Institute. In the film, those directors and senior colleagues serving during the various periods depict the characteristics, important research results, and challenges faced internally and externally during their tenure. Supplemented by many precious images and pictures, this film is destined to serve as not only a historical record for the first 50 years of the Institute of Modern History but also a vision statement for the Institute’s future.
