斯文·赫定是瑞典的著名探險家、地理學者。他在中亞的探險經歷非常豐富。這次演講以中瑞西北科學考察團（1927-1935）爲例，討論探險的學術意義與政治背景之閒有如何關係，發生了什麽矛盾。赫定和中國學者的交往也是需要關注的問題。
