2026 Fellowships for Doctoral Candidates in the Humanities and Social Sciences

1. Requirements
a) This program is open to both R.O.C. and non-R.O.C. citizens. Due to relevant regulations, citizens of the People’s Republic of China are not eligible.
b) Applicants must be full-time graduate students enrolled in a humanities or social science program at a domestic university or at a recognized foreign university, and must hold valid student status throughout both the application and fellowship periods.
c) Applicants must have completed all required coursework, passed the comprehensive examination, and formally obtained doctoral candidacy status. The applicant’s research plan must be compatible with the research directions of IMH.
d) Applicants must not hold part-time or full-time employment during the fellowship period.
e) Each applicant may submit only one application to one institute of Academia Sinica. Multiple submissions are not permitted.

2. Term of Fellowship
a) The fellowship period is one year, from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.
b) Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of NTD 50,000.
c) No later than ten (10) days prior to the end of the fellowship period, Fellows must submit a report describing their research progress during the fellowship period.
d) Fellows may not receive other subsidies or financial support (including employment compensation) during the fellowship period; however, one-time honorary awards or prizes are permitted.

3. Application Materials

Applicants must submit the following materials:
a) IMH Application Form (download from website; avoid general form). Applicants must obtain prior consent from an IMH research fellow to serve as their advisor.
b) Curriculum vitae.
c) Official transcripts of graduate (doctoral) studies.
d) Curriculum vitae.
e) List of publications.
f) Two letters of recommendation from the applicant’s academic institution. (the letters should be sent to IMH by the recommending professors)
g) Publications for review (up to three works; translations excluded; three copies required; one work must be designated as the representative publication).
h) Two letters of recommendation from professors at the applicant’s home institution (to be sent directly by the referees via email to IMH).

4. Submission Method
Printed application materials must not be bound and should be mailed to:

Applicants must also email the curriculum vitae, list of publications, research plan (PDF), and application form (Word format) to the IMH contact person.

4. Application Deadline

February 13, 2026 (based on the postal postmark).

5. Rights and Obligations

a) Fellows are required to engage in research at IMH for at least 2–3 days per week and to sign in during on-site research days. Periodic research progress reports must be provided to the IMH advisor.
b) IMH will provide shared office space, library access, and computer facilities.
c) Matters not specified above shall be handled in accordance with IMH regulations.
