September 12, 1869, Ding Baozhen, Governor of Shandong, executed An Dehai, a powerful eunuch who violating the prohibition of leaving the Capital. It is generally believed that this event was a result of political wrestles between Cixi and her son the Tongzhi emperor. However, Cixi did not revenge Ding. Instead, she promoted him to the General Governor of Sichuan later.
