November 2, 1861, Xinyou Coup d'état took place. Empress Dowager Cixi cooperated with Prince Gong to arrest Sushun who seized power at the Xianfeng Emperor's will. The reign name "Qixiang" given by Sushun was changed to "Tongzhi". This is a milestone in late Qing history. The Daoguang Emperor decided to appoint the Xianfeng Emperor and Prince Gong at one decree.
