November 20, 1927, the preparatory committee of Academia Sinica elected Cai Yuanpei as the first President. Cai was an important figure in fields of academy in early republican China. He served as President of Peking University. From 1928 to 1940, he focused himself on directing Academia Sinica and left various aspects of influences in modern China.
