January 7, 1902, Empress Dowager Cixi and the Guangxu Emperor returned to Beijing since the Boxer's Rebellion. The Eight Nation Alliance eventually decide to let Cixi go. It is a result of endless negotiations done by the Qing diplomats. When Cixi returned to Beijing, she greeted the Western medi in a friendly way, and tried every efforts to mend her international image since then.
