Abstract:
From 1895, Japan's interest in researching Chinese problems increased by the day. With the aim of promoting good feeling between the peoples of the two nations by all means possible, weakening the anti- Japanese sentiment which arose in the wake of the Jiawu War of 1895. The various cultural measures taken by Japan in China came into being against such a background. Japan’s various cultural and social activities in China were very varied, but were of small scale, and were often undertaken by private individuals; because of this, they have rarely been regarded as being important, yet they played an important role in the process of the Japanese Government's invasion of China.
