Abstract:
Jiang Fucong (Chiang Fucong) graduated from the Department of Philosophy of Beijing University, then went to Germany to read Library Studies. Upon returning, he was assigned director of the Central Library Planning Office, becoming the library’s director in 1940. In the War of Resistance Against Japan, he went to occupied areas to collect books to enrich the museum’s collection, strived to broaden international academic exchange and built museum buildings, expanding its scale. He worked for the Central Library for over thirty years. In 1965, he was assigned to the position of director of the National Palace Museum, where he stayed for seventeen years and four months. In the time there he turned the National Palace Museum into an internationally renowned institution, regarded among the greatest of the world’s museums. He was fascinated by the history of the Song dynasty and made notable achievements in this field. In 1974, he was made an Academia Sinica academician.
