Abstract:
General Xu Yongchang (Hsu Yungchang), who participated in campaigns against Yuan Shikai’s attempt to be emperor of China (Fan Hong Xian), anti-restoration and other campaigns, later served as a general in the KMT Third Army, and at one time was chairman of the governments of Suiyuan, Hebei, and Shanxi provinces. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, he served as the Chief of Staff of the Military Committee and Chief of the General Staff. After the war, he was posted to Tokyo to represent the Republic of China at the formal surrender of the Japanese in Tokyo. In 1946, he transferred to the post of principal of the Army War College. After he came to Taiwan, he became a presidential advisor. His diary from 1916-1932, previously published as “Qiu Ji Zhai Diary”, and is contained in the first and second books in this series. The diary for the following 22 years is written in pencil, and is contained in the third to the twelfth books of the series.
