Abstract:
This is a broad, summary autobiography by Lu Siqiang covering the following: his family history, childhood and feelings for home, growing up amid the flames of war, studying in Taiwan, going to Harvard University as a visiting scholar, recollections of work in the Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, research interests, and research findings, memories of his teachers and friends, and more. It all appears to be credible, including all of Mr. Lu's experience at the lowest level of society in his early years. The book is very valuable for understanding the formation of modern historical research in Taiwan and the changes faced by the Chinese people and their successes and failures over the last 80 years.
