    Abstract:
Hsu Choyun once worked in the Institute of History and Philology, and was also responsible for the departmental affairs of National Taiwan University Department of History. He began teaching at the University of Pittsburgh in 1970 afterward serving as chair professor and honorary professor. Specializing in the history of the ancient Shang Dynasty and Chinese social history, with respect to the development of Western Chou and Han-era agriculture he gave a new explanation of China’s social development pattern. In 1980 he was elected an Academia Sinica academician. For his entire life, he concerned himself with the affairs of the state, involving himself in wide areas. This book is an important oral history that bestrides academia, politics, culture, society and other areas.
