Abstract:
Wang Shijie was an important figure in modern Chinese history who held positions in academia, politics, diplomacy, and other areas, holding many important posts. In the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan, he supported Chiang Kai-Shek (Jiang Zhongzheng) while simultaneously bearing the heavy responsibility of serving as the Head of the KMT Central Propaganda Department, as well as being the head of or senior aide in 6 others. In 1962, he took up the post of president of Academia Sinica. He placed great emphasis on the participation in politics of scholars and on the preservation historic material, and he left a large number of documents that are now precious direct materials for researching modern history. His diaries, which he wrote for over 30 years, are regarded with importance by academia, especially scholars of modern political and diplomatic history.
