    Abstract:
This book consists of the diaries written by Pao T'ien-hsiao, a famous journalist, editor, and novelist, in 1948-1949, when he was a sojourner in Taipei. The author recorded not only the exotic everyday life he witnessed in the former Japanese colonized city, but also the cultural and economic exchanges between Shanghai and Taiwan he participated. Moreover, by copying the letters from his relatives and friends, the author preserved precious records of how people really felt and experienced during the latter stage of the civil war between KMT and CCP.
