Abstract:
This book, which provides a narrative up to 1960, not only includes the author’s eyewitness accounts, but also his personal experience. Examining the causes of the sufferings of the Indonesian overseas Chinese, it identifies, besides the factors of the Indonesian government and people, the pivotal role of instigation by the Chinese Communist Party and the Indonesian Communist Party. To improve the conditions of overseas Chinese in Indonesia, the author makes proposals that he hopes not will not only be helpful to the situation of Indonesian Chinese, but also to Overseas Chinese throughout Southeast Asia. As an appendix, a translation of the Indonesian Chinese Exclusion Law is included, which will be an immense help to researchers.
