Abstract:
Xiong Wan (Hsiung Wan) rose to the position of Chief Medical Officer at Chiang Kai-Shek's residence in 1943 and continued in the position until 1975, when Chiang Kai-shek passed away. From the year 1948, he held the position of president of Taipei Medical University and other medical colleges and also served as a professor for more than 10 years. He made many contributions to medicine. Subsequently, he also worked as vice-chairman of the national newspaper the China Times, and the Chairman of the Taipei Grand Hotel. The book provides a great deal of previously unheard first- hand testimony regarding life in the presidential residence during the presidency of the two Chiangs.
