Abstract:
The great earthquake which took place on the 21st of September, 1999, had a huge impact on Taiwan. The process of rebuilding after the earthquake, showed clearly the government's ability to rebuild, while private groups also played an important role. By means of oral interviews, this book gathers and preserves the facts of an earthquake on a scale seldom seen in a century and also contains opinions from different perspectives. It not only provides research material for the study of the history of Taiwanese disasters and local history, but is of certain benefit in the improvement of governmental disaster relief and rebuilding policies.
