Abstract:
著者出生於抗日戰爭前夕,成長於抗戰及內戰的烽火中,隨著父母從大陸「轉進」到臺灣,完成了中學及大學的教育。1950 至1960 年代前後兩次留學美國,獲得碩士及博士學位,在其間又曾任教於香港大專院校三年,有頗不平凡的一段經歷,多少能反映大時代的變遷。 著者專攻中國近代史,但教學範圍擴及東亞史。學成以後先在美國教學,後移居加拿大,在紐布朗斯維克大學執教三十年,退休時學校贈以「榮休教授」 的榮譽頭銜。著者推動中外學術交流,亦活躍於僑務及促進中、加教育與文化關係。 由於長期生活在北美的親身體念,著者關心華人移民的歷史及現況,促進居住地華人的文化活動,建立了廣泛的良好人脈關係。著者熱愛生活,交友及旅遊,在回憶錄中忠實敘述了與家人的親情及與朋友們的友誼。
