Abstract:
Within the history of the diplomacy of the Qing, Tsung Chi-tse is an outstanding figure. This book researches the beginning, development, accomplishments, and failures, of his career in diplomacy. It proceeds to compare his understanding of diplomacy with that of Li Hung-chang, the person in actual charge of overall diplomatic strategy at the time, in order to discuss the overall trends in Chinese diplomacy before the Jiawu War.
