In 1915, Japan issued the Twenty-one Demands in a bid to rule China and dominate Asia, but it provoked backlash among the Chinese people, so these negotiations became a pivotal point in the history of deteriorating Sino-Japanese relations. This book draws sources from the Beijing Government’s diplomatic archives that are stored in Academia Sinica and public archives from Japan’s Foreign Ministry.
