Abstract:
As the phrase suggests, “revolutionary diplomacy” referred to “revolutionary” methods and tactics to redress the inequality in Sino-foreign diplomatic relations, especially to abolish the unequal treaties. However, in practice, “revolutionary diplomacy” included very different approaches to “hard-line” and “soft diplomacy.” This book concludes by assessing the successes and failures of the 1925-1931 Guangzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing Nationalist Governments in their mission to use the policy of “revolutionary diplomacy” to abolish the unequal treaties.
