This book supplements the Chronicle of Kuo Sungtao, edited by Kuo Tingyi. The former Chronicle sources were limited to historical data, and any unclear or erroneous parts of it about Kuo’s deeds can now be supplemented or corrected by reference to his diary. This is particularly so in the case of his political situations and political views, his acceptance of and response to Western cultural relics,as well as giving an all-round view of the character of the subject of the Chronicle.
