本論文集源起於民國八十七年十一月二十七至二十八日中央研究院近代史研究所召開之「財政與近代歷史」學術研討會。 此論文集所收十五篇論文，大抵均曾利用原始資料對財政與近代歷史關係進行探討。其個別論述重點請參閱各文。除財政與近代歷史關係之外，各文可能另有獨到之處，於此謹試圖以各文及會中討論為基礎，就約自1600年以來中國大陸與台灣之財政與歷史關係鉤描幾點心得，並提出幾項值得進一步努力之方向
