摘要：

新界，一個由獨特歷史事件衍生的地區，也是觸發香港整體回歸的歷史主角。新界原居民在特殊的境遇下，在一千年間，保存了自身的中國傳統文化習俗，直至現在。

本演講將以新界鄉議局與新界地方文化之間的互動為主軸，介紹新界鄉議局的設立、發展和沿革的過程及其擔當和行使的功能；通過梳理新界地方文化的種類，闡析其內容、特色，展示新界鄉議局為保護、弘揚及發展新界地方文化付出的努力，並嘗試作出公允的評價。
