Under the order of the Kangxi Emperor, the Jesuits in the Qing Palace translated Western medicine into the Manchu texts Ge ti ciowan lu bithe. Not only the modern anatomy was illuminated, some Western remedies were also introduced in the book. This is the very precious examples of foreign remedies introduced to China between the Islamic medicine in the Mongol rules and the revolutionized pharmacy after the opium war. In this paper, I interpret the discuss the remedies in the Manchu texts from the aspects of the diseases, materials, and technologies of making medicines. I argue that although this Manchu texts somehow reflect the European pharmaceutical characters of the late Seventeenth Century, the translator also considered the situation in the Qing Palace, and accordingly took a conservative attitude regarding the extent of his introduction.
