本次演講是關於歐美一本即將出版的新書《從明初到習近平的中國經世策略》(Between the People and the State: Chinese Statecraft from Early Ming to Xi Jinping)之介紹。該書作者群包括有卜正民、王國斌、濮德培、宋怡民、朱莉等臺灣熟知的西方學者,也是13位學者一次跨領域的合作。書中想要解決一項基本問題:中國是如何來進行治理的?雖然我們關注是今日習近平的統治策略,但將視野追溯到明代(1368-1644 年),並以跨時空及全球史的視角重新審思。通過「經世」為題,分析有關教化理念、治術策略,還有放在同時代帝國史的比較,檢視當代中國政治話語的核心。我們的目標不是提供有關治理的單一理論,相反地,嘗試理解歷史上政治參與者在人民和國家之間的變遷,以釐清理論化不足的部分。
