※Two or Three Things about Kang Youwei is a companion documentary to Datong: The Great Society, recipient of the inaugural 2011 Humane Life Movie of the Year Award presented by the Southern Metropolitan Daily. The film zeroes in on Korsholmen, the Swedish island Kang Youwei lived on for a few years, speculates on his love for Sweden in connection to his revival of the millennial utopia of Datong, examines his impact on the birth of the Chinese modern art.
※Director Evans Chan, who Peggy Chiao, a famous film scholar in Taiwan, describes as “The real intellectual in the field of Chinese movie, who has the feelings of a poet, a sharp perspicacity, original creative forms, and a historical view which is rare in the circle of modern Chinese director.” His latest controversial work about the Revolution of 1911, Datong: The Great Society, turned out to be a series of creative and alternative Chinese historical movies. Datong: The Great Society will be one of the closing film in this year’s New Taipei City Film Festival. The film Two or Three Things about Kang Youwei is the latest movie of Director Chan, continuing the vision of Datong.
