Abstract, This study explores the lives of two scientists who were active in the scientific communities in early 20th century Manchuria. One was an émigré Russian geologist who settled in Harbin after the October Revolution and Civil War in Russia; another was a Japanese paleontologist who first came to Manchuria as a school teacher. Their trajectories illustrate the changes and continuities in knowledge circulation against the background of war and empire.
