Information for Visiting Scholars Program Applicants
 
(The above information is subject to the Guidelines for
the Institute of Modern History Visiting Scholars Program)

1. Eligibility

  1. Visiting Scholars: Applicants must be at the rank of assistant professor or higher at a foreign university or research institute, or be conducting postdoctoral research and have published a major work.
  2. Visiting Students: Applicants must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program at a foreign university or research institute.
  3. The applicant’s research topic must be related to the IMH’s research, and the applicant must be sponsored by at least one IMH full-time researcher.

2. Application process

The Visiting Scholars Program at the Institute of Modern History accepts applications twice a year. All applications must be submitted through the online service system:
First Round: From February 1 to 28 (for visits that take place between July 1 and June 30 of the following year);
Second Round: From August 1 to 31 (for visits that take place between January 1 and December 31 of the following year).
All applications must be made through the online service system of the IMH, and materials must be uploaded in PDF file format.

3. Application Materials

  1. Online application form (Example) (Applicants must obtain sponsorship from at least one IMH full-time researcher before submitting their application).
  2. CV (including list of publications).
  3. In a separate document, provide a research proposal and reasons for visiting the IMH.
  4. A letter of recommendation from your institution’s chairperson or director.

4. During your visit, all rights and responsibilities are subject to IMH regulations.

5. IMH does not provide funding for applicants.

6. Visiting periods may range from 14 days to 1 year.

7. All applicants will be notified of application results by e-mail.

Please note:

As the pandemic COVID-19 remains severe and the traveling restriction is still enforced, the program recipients may not be able to visit the Institute of Modern History as scheduled. It depends on the latest regulations of entrance to Taiwan. Thanks for your understanding.
